Description
The day after a heavy snowstorm has a magical quality. The skies were blue, winds were calm and the snow up to my knees. It took some effort to dig out and drive to one of my favourite areas, the Dundas Valley Conservation Area in Ontario. It was worth every bit of effort. I was rewarded with this glorious magical scene. As I was preparing to take a photograph, I'm sure I saw the delicate wingtips of little fairies flitting to their hiding places.
I'm fortunate to live within a 5 minute drive to this little piece of heaven. The Dundas Valley is one of southern Ontario's most spectacular natural treasures. Highlights of the 1,200-hectare conservation area include lush Carolinian forests, colourful meadows, cold-water streams, stunning geological formations and an array of rare plants, birds and wildlife.
The area is part of a large glacial valley that spreads out into Lake Ontario. It was excavated by a succession of glaciers that disappeared some 10,000 years ago The landscape that emerged has been shaped by glacial melt water and, more recently, by streams flowing through the valley.
The valley's 1,200 hectares of Carolinian forests, fields, cold-water streams and stunning geological formations are home to an array of rare plants, birds and wildlife. The rich natural environment existing here and along the Niagara Escarpment has been designated a World Biosphere Reserve by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

Quite an impressive image Barbara. Love the composition, which makes for a very strong image. And I also like the treatment. Makes it look magical and out of this world.
Barbara McMahon replied:
Thank you Hany! It appeared very magical to me when I came upon this spot. The only treatment it received was a change in "hue" of the sunlight.
Vicki Spindler

Barbara McMahon replied:
Thank you very much Cynthia! You've described it very well...a warming wintery scene. Lots of snow but the warmth of the sun allowed one to be outside for some time.

Great Job. Geta a lot of winter scenes with trees in USA Artist News, so few are published in the ARTIST NEWS an Internet Publication. But, the Post processing in this, made it "different" so Congratulations.... it was published today. V,F, and Tweeted to 24,,500 of our followers.
