Description
This past summer a charity canoe race was held on the Grand River in Ontario. It was a brutally hot day with a strong head wind. The Grand River is a fast moving, wide river with many rapids, shallows, and rocks to navigate. I watched the experienced young canoeists travel the 30 kms. and arrive at the end totally spent.
This elderly gentleman was passing under the last bridge with approximately 1 km. left in his long voyage. His canoe was hand made and short in comparison with the other canoes. He was alone with a strong look of determination on his face to finish, and he did!!! Spent and sore.....but triumphant! The human spirit continues to amaze me. Barbara McMahon

This is a great photo and I love the description. Wow, I am so ready to break out the kayaks!!!

Thanks so much Tony! This man was about 75 years old! Due to the headwind, rapids, shallows, heat and distance, it was quite an accomplishment! Soon Tony, soon....time to bring out the kayaks!!
